What you can apply for

GAVI offers the following types of support which eligible countries can apply for and benefit from until 2015:

  1. Immunisation services support (ISS) which can by applied for by all GAVI-eligible countries.
  2. New and underused vaccines support (NVS) which is provided with associated injection safety equipment.

However, in order for GAVI's 72 eligible countries to qualify for the following four new vaccines, their immunisation coverage for the third dose for diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus (DTP3) must reach 50% and the government must not already be funding the vaccine. GAVI support also is guided by WHO criteria for disease burden and appropriate immunisation.

    • Hepatitis B vaccine (HepB), usually presented as a pentavalent (5 antigens in 1 dose) vaccine in combination with DTP3 and Hib, although it can be presented as a tetravalent ("4 in 1") vaccine, in combination with DTP3.
    • Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccine (Hib), usually presented as a pentavalent (5 antigens in 1 dose) vaccine in combination with DTP3 and HepB, although it can be presented as a tetravalent ("4 in 1") vaccine, in combination with DTP3.
    • Pneumococcal vaccine (Pneumo)
    • Rotavirus vaccine (Rota)
    • Yellow Fever (YF): countries can apply to top up their yellow fever vaccination programmes, if coverage is lower than that for measles, regardless of the level of DTP3 coverage.

Countries can apply for measles vaccine for introduction as a second routine dose (MSD) if they meet WHO criteria.
