Pierre Claquin is a public health doctor and a medical epidemiologist who has contributed to the eradication of smallpox in Bangladesh and Somalia 

Dr Pierre Claquin is a public health doctor and a medical epidemiologist who spent more than 35 years working in developing countries. He contributed to the eradication of smallpox in Bangladesh and Somalia between 1975 and 1978. He was the technical director of the REACH project that provided EPI support to 15 countries between 1985 and 1991. Between 1999 and 2003 he led the IOCH project in urban Bangladesh that strengthened polio eradication and EPI. He contributed to the creation of EPI survey analysis software in 1988 (DOS) and 2002 (Windows). In the past 5 years he led the UNDP health activities in the CHT of Bangladesh.
