Vaccine goal indicators

in page functions

Two indicators measure progress against the vaccine goal of GAVI's 2011-2015 strategy: to accelerate the uptake and use of new and underused vaccines

1. Country introductions of underused and new vaccines

Number of countries that have introduced underused and new vaccines to date.

Number of countries that have introduced underused and new vaccines to date.

Number of countries that have introduced underused and new vaccines to date.

This indicator directly measures the extent to which GAVI's first strategic goal is being met: the acceleration of uptake and use of underused & new vaccines.

Data source

Targets are derived from the Accelerated Vaccine Introduction Strategic Demand Forecast. Progress will be measured through the WHO Vaccine Introduction Database.

All 73 GAVI eligible countries are being tracked, with countries included irrespective of whether they introduce the vaccine with or without the Alliance's support.

Although the three graphs illustrated above show targets for country introductions of pentavalent, pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines, GAVI will also track progress against separate targets for yellow fever, measles second dose, meningitis A, Human papillomavirus, Japanese encephalitis, typhoid and rubella.

2. Coverage of underused and new vaccines

Coverage of underused and new vaccines in GAVI eligible countries.

Coverage of underused and new vaccines in GAVI eligible countries.

Coverage of underused and new vaccines in GAVI eligible countries.

This indicator, together with 'Country introductions of underused and new vaccines', measures the extent to which GAVI's first strategic goal is being met.

Data source

The targets for this indicator are derived from the Accelerated Vaccine Introduction Strategic Demand Forecast. Progress will be measured through population weighted coverage estimates from WHO/UNICEF. Three vaccines will be tracked separately in all 73 GAVI eligible countries: pentavalent, pneumococcal and rotavirus.

Whereas the previous indicator records the number of countries that introduce vaccines irrespective of population size, this indicator tracks the percentage of population reached across all of the countries.
