Proposal for NVS - Tetra support: Congo, Democratic Republic of the

The governments intends to introduce the vaccine against hepatits B into the routine EPI from 2006 as component of the tetravalent vaccine, including the antigens against DTP. The strategies to increase immunisation coverage are included in the multi-year strategic plan. Government planning is based on the Global Immunization Vision and Strategy (GIVS) from WHO/UNICEF.

Proposal for NVS - Tetra support: Afghanistan

Proposal outlines Afghanistan's needs and plans to roll out Tetravalent vaccine (DTP-HepB) or hepatitis B vaccine monovalent. Introduction will be in 2006, the monovalent would be introduced in phases, first in the central region which has 27% of the total  target population. A total of 257,051 children under one year, in central region will be immunised with the first dose of Hepatitis B vaccine in 2006.

Proposal for ISS support: Papua New Guinea

The government seeks GAVI support to strengthen routine immunisation (ISS) and introduce a new combination liquid tetravalent vaccine (DTP-Hib). Despite an excellent health infrastructure and national information health systems, the immunisation service delivery systems are struggling to maintain adequate coverage levels for different antigens included in the schedule due to several issues identified in previous EPI reviews: poor systematic outreach, poor community demand, poor transport and communication systems.

Proposal for NVS - Penta support: Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone has benefited from GAVI support for ISS, yellow fever vaccine and INS. Having reached the immunisation coverage needed to be ligible for NVS, the country is now applying for support to introduce hepB and Hib vaccines in the pentavalent form. Support will be spread over a period of eight years and will amount to approx. US$ 6.4 million. The ninth year, the government will take over full responsibility of the procurement of the new vaccine and supplies.

Proposal for NVS -Penta support: Ethiopia

Funding is being requested to support the introduction of hepatitis B (HepB) and Hib vaccines as pentavalent DTP-HepB-Hib vaccine in 2006.  With the hepB vaccine, over 10,000 premature deaths can be prevented for each vaccinated cohort.  The overall number of hepatitis B infections would be reduced by 65%. Hib infections are a significant cause of childhood morbidity and mortality in Ethiopia according to many studies.
