Funding history
Germany has been a donor to GAVI since 2006 and contributes to the Alliance through direct contributions. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) made contributions totalling €16 million to GAVI between 2006 and 2010 through direct funding.
In late 2010, Germany increased its 2011 contribution to €6 million on an initiative from the German parliament. On 6 April 2011, Minister Niebel committed to spending an additional contribution of €14 million to GAVI for 2011 (as part of the Muskoka Initiative) bringing Germany’s 2011 contribution to €20 million.
Furthermore, Germany has indicated in May 2011 a commitment of €30 million for 2012. The year on year increases will be matched with catalytic funding from the Gates Foundation.
