A passionate advocate for women and children’s rights, Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf addressing the GAVI Alliance Pledging Conference in London on 13 June 2011. Her humble and persistent support for GAVI’s mission to save children’s lives and protect people’s health by increasing access to vaccination in developing countries helped attract unprecedented additional donor funding for childhood immunisation.
