Internal Audit - Evaluates and helps strengthen processes relating to control, governance, and risk management
Internal Audit is an independent and objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve the operations of GAVI. Its scope includes not only the Secretariat but also the programmes and activities of GAVI's grant recipients and partners; the office of the Internal Auditor oversees GAVI's Transparency and Accountability Team which conducts reviews of cash programmes and, as needed, investigates any cases of possible misuse of GAVI funds.
The Managing Director of Internal Audit also serves as the compliance officer for GAVI‘s Whistleblower Policy. To ensure independence, Internal Audit reports to the GAVI CEO and the GAVI Board.
Simon Lamb commenced work at GAVI as Managing Director of Internal Audit in January 2013. Simon is a UK Chartered Accountant with over 30 years professional experience in the profession. He worked with PriceWaterhouseCoopers in financial audit and management consultancy (including two years in Nairobi, Kenya) and in various management positions within Goldman Sachs’ Internal Audit function, in London and New York. Most recently, he was the Head of Internal Audit at Blackrock, the global asset management company.
Audit and Finance Committee
The Audit and Finance Committee provides Board-level oversight of the Internal Audit function including its objectives, organisational reporting lines, and plans and operating budget, to ensure that these are appropriate and sufficient to enable Internal Audit to satisfy its mission.
Internal Audit presents its annual report to the Board, and as needed, reports on key topics such as investigations, the review of GAVI’s programmes, and risk management, and other matters requested by the Board or determined to be necessary by Internal Audit.
