Civil society organisations have one seat on the Alliance Board; which rotates to a new CSO representative every two years
The GAVI Alliance Civil society organisation (CSO) constituency consists of a diverse network of CSOs that are motivated to support the Alliance's mission. The CSO constituency consists of:
- CSO Board member and Alternate;
- a core CSO Steering Committee;
- a diverse Civil Society Forum.
The CSO constituency is guided by a Charter that was adopted in October 2010.
CSOs are represented on the GAVI Alliance Board by Alan Hinman (Representative) and Joan Awunyo-Akaba (Alternate). As CSOs are a diverse and multi-faceted group, playing various roles within the GAVI Alliance mandate, the CSO representative and alternate are supported by a broad group of CSO stakeholders.
The CSO Steering Committee is a group of up to 15 CSO representatives, excluding the Board member, alternate and CSO representatives on GAVI Committees, which support the Board member and alternate, and actively participate in ongoing GAVI Alliance work.
The Forum functions through periodic in-person meetings and an email listserv; CSO organisations are welcome and encouraged to join this group.
The Steering Committee synthesises broader CSO feedback from the Forum into specific inputs for the Board representative and alternate, and is designated to represent CSOs in ongoing GAVI Alliance policy and programme work.
Both the CSO Steering Committee and Civil Society Forum seek to generate CSO inputs that lead to robust GAVI decisions, policies and programmes.
A full-time communications focal point, hosted at the The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Geneva, supports the CSO forum and the steering committee, board and committee members.
