The GAVI Alliance Board relies on a number of committees to support the development of key policies and oversee specific activities. These committees are comprised of Board members, alternates, and in some instances delegates with expertise in critical areas.
The Executive Committee is responsible for making critical, time-sensitive decisions that allow the Alliance to function in-between Board meetings. The Committee also serves as an advisory body to the full Board and ensures that new policies are sufficiently developed prior to Board decision. The Executive Committee is chaired by Jaime Sepulveda.

At the June 2009 Board, the Governance Committee recommended that the Board charter a small Evaluation Advisory Committee comprising a majority of independent evaluation experts and a minority of board members. This committee will oversee organisation and programme evaluation; provide oversight for GAVI’s organisational and programmatic evaluation activities; review and approve GAVI’s multi-year and annual evaluation work plans and review the evaluation reports from the independent consultant selected to perform these reviews. The committee will also periodically reassess the Evaluation Policy and report on its work to the Board as requested. The committee became operational on 30 July 2009 and is chaired by Bernhard Schwartlander.
